The Man In The Musical Mirror
After a 10 year career as a child star, the tide turned for Morena The Squire after those closest to him who knew of his many talents implored him to take up singing.
From doing backing vocals to recording an impromptu EP with hip-hop producer pH, the journey brought about a chance meeting with Ray, a guitarist with whom The Squire developed the riff that later became Faith Alive during an informal jam session.
Fast forward a few years and different creative paths later, the singer/performer who cites Donny Hathaway, James Brown and Prince amongst his most iconic muses, finds himself back in front of a notepad, a mic and an audience.
It's 2019 and he’s fighting fit, excited for the next chapter. After all, his brief exposure brought about key milestones such as sharing the stage with some of South Africa’s top talent at Cassper Nyovest’s seminal Fill Up series and being nominated for a South African Music Award for Best Remix in 2018. Morena The Squire is back to being one to watch as he shares the complex simplicity of his personality through his music and his performances.
